John Barla is an Indian politician from West Bengal. He is 45 years old (as of July 2021). He was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2019 from Alipurduars, West Bengal. Since 7 July 2021, he is serving as the Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Minority Affairs. He is a member of the political party Bhartiya Janta Party. At the age of 14, he used to work in tea gardens and he started to raise the voice for the welfare of the tea workers. After some time he participated in election.

Early Life

John Barla was born on 8 August 1975 in village Lakhipara, Jalpaiguri district, West Bengal. Thomas Barla is his father and Gunjair Barla is his mother. His education qualification is class IX after he dropped education. at the Age of 14, he started working on tea gardens of Alipurduar district. After that, he started to raise the voice for the welfare of the tea workers and for this people started knowing him as a social worker. On 27 December 1999 he married Mahima Barla.


At a very young age (14 years), he started working at the tea garden also he used to raise the voice for the welfare of the tea workers. He participated in the 2019 Lok Sabha election and he won the Lok sabha seat by defeating Dasrath Tirkey of All India Trinamool Congress by more than 2 lakh votes from Alipurduar.

Since 13 September 2019 he is the member of Standing Committee on Labour, Consultative Committee, and Ministry of Minority Affairs. On 8 July 2021, he was made the Minister of State for Minority Affairs during the cabinet reshuffle in the Narendra Modi cabinet.
